Fall Activities for the Family

I get really excited when I think about the fall season.  Living in Georgia, we don’t really experience drastic weather changes with the seasons, but sometimes we get a beautiful glimpse of true fall weather and it is glorious!  There is something so magical about this time of year and it seems to be the perfect opportunity to really embrace the ones we care about and enjoy the beauty of nature. This year I am so excited about the cooler weather that I made a list of things to do with my family to enjoy it.

 Fall Activities for the Family

Leaf Jumping

This seems so incredibly simple, but I hope at some point in your life you have raked together a pile of leaves and jumped in with reckless abandon!  Sure, I’d get sneezy afterwards, but I will never forget feeling as carefree as I did jumping into that pile of leaves and throwing them into the air.  If you have children, you should really do this with them and if you don’t, then go do it anyway!

Fall Foliage Drive

The older I get the more respect I have for the true beauty of nature. My daughter found a red leaf today and the joy that red leaf brought her made me so happy.  It is really that simple, to just recognize the wonder that surrounds you. This year, I hope to take a drive through the country and appreciate the changing of the leaves while listening to some beautiful music and letting all my cares float away.

Go Camping

Camping in Georgia during the summer is brutal.  You usually just want to avoid going outside unless you have water to get in. When the weather starts to cool down and fall finally appears it is time to pull out the tents and sleeping bags. It doesn’t matter where you camp, you can just camp in your backyard if you want to.  The best part of camping is gazing up at the stars and having those long meaningful conversations with special people.

Host a Bonfire

S’mores are one of my favorite guilty pleasures in life and I will take any opportunity to partake in them.  Fall is the perfect time for a bonfire with family and friends. You can roast hot dogs, play charades, and maybe even tell a few ghost stories.

Take a Hike or a Bike

Just go outside!  Fall is the perfect time of year to explore the great outdoors.  There are probably places near your house that you have never visited that would offer tranquility and stunning scenery.  Pack a picnic and go on an adventure!

 Fall Activities for the Family

Visit a Pumpkin Patch

We have a local pumpkin patch that has hay rides, bounce houses, and other activities for children.  The fields of sunflowers and old barns are the perfect backdrop for special photos. They also have delicious local seasonal produce that will always have you going back for more.  Check out the local pumpkin patches near you, it is a wonderful way to spend the day with you family.

Explore Your State Parks

Recently, we took our daughter and her friends to a state park for the day and had a wonderful time.  The kids learned a lot that day and really enjoyed exploring a new place.  We have decided to start visiting state parks more often, because there are still many i have never seen before.

Apple Picking

I say we are going to do this every year and this year we are definitely going!  I have a bit of a Johnny Appleseed obsession from the Disney Tall Tales and Legends DVD and now my daughter likes it too.  So this year we will pick apples and I’m so excited!

Start Baking

This is one of my favorite things to do any time of the year!  I love to take family, friends, and neighbors things we have baked.  My niece and daughter really enjoy it as well so we usually make a day of baking and delivering.

That is my plan for the fall season so far! My daughter just asked me this morning if we can send out invitations for a full Halloween party!  Yikes! That will be another post…if we do it!
